In the months of October and November, the older elephant bulls come out of hiding to claim their breeding rights in the breeding herds. They will stay with the breeding herds until February-March. Thereafter they go into hiding, normally with one or 2 askaris.

These older elephant bulls are as a rule older than 43/45 years of age and carries much bigger tusks. They earn their breeding rights based on body size and size of their tusks

Bear in mind that an elephant bull doubles his tusk weight at 43/45 years to age 57/58 years.

You can expect to hunt an elephant with tusks in the 45-60 pounds category.
